“Fiona lifted an enormous weight off my shoulders. It was so nice to have somebody else fighting our corner especially someone who knew the system, entitlements and regulations inside and out, to know when and what to argue for and what was not acceptable. It transformed Rhys’s personal budget not only by the amount but also to encompass flexibility. On so many occasions in the process we were told things were not possible and outside the Local Authorities remit of resources. Fiona also helped greatly with our DLA application pointing out all those things that are taken for granted on a day-to-day basis. She even went to the Tribunal and argued our case, which we then won. Life can be hard enough caring for a disabled person without having all the worry of fighting for their rights on your own. Fiona really was a breath of fresh air, she is compassionate and professional and we couldn’t have managed without her.”
“After I was diagnosed with cancer in 2011, our family was forced to make some major changes regarding the care of our Autistic son, aged 12. Being severely Autistic and having complex needs we had to consider respite care in order for us to cope with the treatment I was scheduled to have over the coming months.
When we found a provision perfect for his needs, sadly our choice was dismissed by the local authority. We sought help from Carefree Northants and we were very fortunate to have Fiona Powell as our advocate. Fiona attended many meetings and with her expert knowledge, support and understanding, we found it was invaluable having her on board to help us to ensure our son had the correct placement for respite care. She was able to give us the strength to fight for what was right for him and give us the opportunity as a family to try to cope with our terrible situation. As a family, we have been extremely impressed with all the help we have received and will always be very grateful to Carefree and especially to Fiona for fighting our case.”
